2nd Dubai International Project Management Forum opens on Monday

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, the 2nd Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF) will kick off tomorrow (Monday) at the Conference & Events Center, Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

2aThe event is organized by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Emaar Properties, and the Project Management Institute (PMI). This year’s edition is marked by a lineup of 50 international speakers including ministers, presidents & CEOs of mega firms, and a crème of global experts and project management specialists. Project Management is increasingly perceived as a core development strategy and a key pillar of modern management science that has a great impact on developing structures & perimeters capable of ensuring the success of development efforts at various fields.

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, welcomed participants and attendants of the DIPMF held under the theme Project Management Supports Innovation in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, designating 2015 as a Year of Innovation. It also marks the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, declaring the UAE Innovation Week.

“Holding this Forum is a result of the constructive cooperation between RTA, DEWA, Emaar and PMI, and culminates the huge success of the first edition of the Forum. The event is in line with the role of Dubai to play pivotal role in leading the development drive in the region, and accelerating the growth tempo on the basis of sound scientific principles aligned with the highest global standards. This objective can best be achieved through attracting elite experts & professionals of international repute to global events, which can effectively be utilized as knowledge transfer platforms. Moreover, Dubai has always been keen to act as a communication link in the exchange of expertise, ideas and visions between gurus of various industries worldwide in concurrence with its image as an Arab city with an international profile,” added Al Tayer.

“In the second edition of the Forum we will be capitalizing on the success of the inaugural edition by hosting a plethora of prominent speakers who will present their practices, success stories and experiences in various aspects of project management such as infrastructure, transport, economy, trade, finance, sport, and art. A special attention will be paid to innovation and creativity in line with the UAE Government direction designating 2015 as a Year of Innovation,” he further noted.

“Project Management plays a critical & leading role in the implementation of plans, programs and projects and is a catalyst for realizing the organizational objectives of any organization. This role requires a corporate system for managing projects, programs and project portfolio. It also requires competent cadres in managing projects such as programs manager, project managers, and project offices manager who have the skill & leadership required for an effective contribution to the management of sound projects, which do not constitute a burden to the organization,” continued Al Tayer.

International Expertise
Among the international keynote speakers hosted by the DIPMF is HE Dr. Rüdiger Grube, CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG, Germany, who will deliver the opening speech of the Forum.

The Deutsche Bahn AG is one of the major companies specialized in operating trains and railway in Europe, including German Railways, which extends more than 33,000 kilometers. The company, which transports goods and passengers, offers its services in more than 130 countries around the world, and hires more than 300,000 employees. Dr. Grube has extensive experience of over 30 years gained from several companies in Germany, Japan and South Korea
.
The Forum will host from the UAE HE Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the incumbent Minister of Economy since 2008 who had already served as a Minister of Transport and Minister of Governmental Sector Development. Another Emirati guest is HE Engineer Suhail Mohammed Al Mazroui, Minister of Energy, who also assumes a number of key positions including Chairman of the Board of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA), Chairman of Mubadala Petroleum Company and Chairman of the Emirates Liquefied Gas Company. The powerful line-up of Emirati speakers also include HE Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, HE Saeed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, HE Dr. Ali bin Sibaa Al Marri, CEO of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, HE Mohammed Al Hammadi, CEO of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, and Dr. Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency.

The Forum also hosts Dr.  Edward Hoffman, NASA’s Chief Knowledge Officer, who drafts policies, strategies, ‎procedures and practices to successfully promote, create and retain ‎knowledge and disseminate the culture of supporting the success of tasks. ‎Prior to this, Hoffman had established and managed the NASA Academy ‎for Implementing Engineering and Projects Leadership Programs for more ‎than 20 years. The speakers list also includes HE Mark Langley, ‎President and CEO of Project Management Institute, which has more than ‎‎700,000 members including individuals and institutions all over the ‎world, in addition to Dr. Terry Cook Davies, an expert and specialist in public ‎management and project management since late 1960.

His communications and ‎international participations have contributed to establishing close ‎relations with more than 100 leading global organization. There is also Mr. ‎Tom Kelly, General Manager of EDO, a renowned flagship company in ‎design and development. Kelly, who practices innovation every day, is one ‎of the leading figures in innovation thanks to his ability to promote ‎creativity culture in companies where he wrote three books about ‎innovation and creativity.‎
Program

The second edition of the Forum reviews new topics including aviation, creativity, innovation, healthcare, education, financial services, hospitality, investigations, and digital projects. The Forum will continue discussing topics related to smart cities, Expo 2020, Project Management Office, governance, corporate projects management, infrastructure, and engineering projects. The first day of the Forum will witness four sessions discussing leadership, criminal investigation management, sports project management, space and aviation project management. The forum also includes three seminars about innovation and bringing happiness in addition to healthcare project management and one key lecture.

The second day will be have two sessions about management of giant projects, hospitality project management, in addition to three lectures about project management for supporting giant enterprises, one lecture about innovation, “Confident Leadership’s Pillar”. The second day will also have one lecture about implementation of strategies (Science and Art), in addition to two more sessions about corporate project management, and innovation.
Organizational Success

The first edition of the Forum has achieved a great success in terms of perfect organization and the huge attendance exceeding 1,500 participants, 70% of them represented executives and project managers. The diverse themes, events and activities held during the forum reviewed issues such as construction and engineering project management in addition to technical, sports, energy and sustainability projects management. The Forum included five workshops, seven seminars and 18 concurrent sessions, with the participation of 56 speakers.
Objectives

By holding this forum, the RTA aims to shed light on Dubai as a leading city in project management with successes in this respect reflected in adopting world-best standards in construction of several mega projects of international acclaim. Examples of these projects include Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, Dubai Airports, giant ports projects, and iconic projects with unique architectural designs, among others.
