UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honoured the winners of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) Awards at the Dubai World Trade Center on Thursday.
Following a rendition of the national anthem, Sheikh Maktoum delivered an address praising the DGEP for encouraging innovation and excellence, while benefitting the country’s institutions and society at large.
Sheikh Maktoum went on to lavish praise on a number of government employees who performed with distinction in their jobs, including a worker at Dubai International Airport, Jamal bin Krishan, winner of the Distinguished Government Employee Award. Not only were employees like Jamal instrumental in cutting costs and improving efficiency, but they also played a key role in boosting customer satisfaction levels, he added.
The grateful prize-winner was greeted warmly by Sheikh Mohammed who congratulated him on his achievements and his dedication in carrying out his duties.
Soon Sheikh Mohammed took the stage alongside Sheikh Maktoum and Secretary General of the Award’s Executive Board Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al Shebani who paid tribute to His Highness for sponsoring the event.
Sheikh Mohammed honoured winners in a whole range of categories, with municipality workers, healthcare staff and officials at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry among those taking home prizes. Some notable personalities were presented with trophies, including Chairman of the Board of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Mattar Al Tayer and Commander General of Dubai Police Lt. General His Excellency Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the latter winning the award for excellence in teamwork.
Towards the end of the ceremony Sheikh Mohammed delivered some encouraging remarks to the award winners, advising them to cast aside all doubt in their minds, as doubt is destructive and kills innovation.
“Every morning you should wake up full of confidence and determination that you are pioneers and leaders,” he concluded.
Also present at the ceremony were Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, heads and directors of government departments and a large gathering of public employees.
