Abu Dhabi Police announced on Wednesday the removal of speed buffer in the emirate.
In a statement issued on social media, ADP said that starting from August 12, all speed limits in the Capital will be changed, emphasising that speed buffer on all roads will also be removed.
Currently, most roads in the Capital have a buffer that allows motorists to travel 20kmph faster than what is advertised as the speed limit without being penalised or fined.
From August 12 onwards, drivers traveling on a road with a speed limit of 100kph, will be fined for traveling 101kph.
So, for example, a motorist driving on an 80kmph road will be flashed if they even cross 81kmph as show in their Instagram post.
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and a member of the Executive Council, said that the decision was taken based on traffic safety studies.
It aims to achieve the highest levels of safety in Abu Dhabi .
