Saudi issues tender for Riyadh metro

Saudi Arabian authorities have launched a tender process to develop a new metro transit system in the capital Riyadh. In a notice on the Arriyadh Development Authority’s website, “global consortia” were invited to bid to provide infrastructure including rolling stock and telecommunications, as well as tunnelling, civil, mechanical and electrical works.

New Saudi metro to ease Haj traffic

Saudi Arabia's new metro system will ease traffic congestion during the annual Haj pilgrimage, a top official has said. The Haramain High Speed Rail project, which is under construction, will be a 449.2km high-speed inter-city system linking Madinah and Makkah. Makkah Construction project includes 4 metro lines to link Makkah districts...

The Saudi Gazette reported that the Makkah Construction Project includes 4 metro lines and 182 kilometers train system with 88 stations that will link Makkah districts to the Grand Mosque. Makkah Mayor Dr Osama Fadl Al Bar expects that Makkah train which will be linked to the Holy Sites Train will be operational two years after work begins on the project.
