WS Atkins has won a £75 million contract as lead designer for three lines of a new 180-kilometre long metro system in Riyadh.
The company will work with Spanish consultancy Typsa alongside the FAST consortium – which is made up of FCC, Samsung, Alstom, Strukton and Freyssinet) – to design and build lines 4, 5 and 6 of the new six-line system.
The consortium is also responsible for 25 new stations, two depots and seven park and rides.
FAST’s contract is the largest of the three design and build contracts awarded, at $7.8 billion and includes an order for 69 Metropolis trains from rolling stock manufacturer Alstom. More info
