The Dubai Press Club hosted a panel discussion for youth in collaboration with Emirates Youth Council at the fourth edition of the Emirati Media Forum (EMF) held today.
The panel, moderated by Dubai Media Incorporated anchor Mohammed Al Kaabi, discussed the future of media from the perspective of youth. The panelists praised the development of local media both from the point of view of quality and content. They also highlighted the role of youth in shaping the future of local media by addressing key issues that concern society.
Panelists said that the gap between job market requirements and academic outcomes is one of the key issues facing fresh media graduates. They called on media institutes to develop training programmes that bridge this gap.
The session also discussed the role of media establishments in encouraging youth to join the media sector. There were mixed views on the ability of media outlets to accommodate fresh graduates.
At the end of the session, attendees shared ideas for developing the local media sector. Suggestions included enhancing university programmes to address job market needs, and boosting collaboration between media establishments and academic institutions. They also urged students to change their views about the media as an easy route to fame. More info
