Liberty to promote electric buses in UAE
Liberty Automobiles has been appointed the exclusive dealer in the UAE for the world's first electric buses. The company, a leading General Motors dealer in the region, will represent the US-based DesignLine Corporation as it markets the new-concept green vehicles across the UAE. Two of the 100 per cent electric buses, known as the Eco-Smart I, are already in daily operation on Abu Dhabi's Sir Bani Yas Island.
Municipality launches third edition of Dubai Map
The new Dubai maps will be available at petrol stations, book shops and other retail outlets, said a municipality official. “The second side of the map contains the central area of Dubai city and a window for Dubai Metro lines, so the user can plan his journey and select areas he wishes to visit,” Lootah said.
Contractors restart work on Al Sufouh tram project
The consortium also includes UK based Serco and US based Parsons International. In June 2010, the consortium stopped work on the tram project due to irregular payments from the client, Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority Later in the year, the RTA said it was in negotiations with the consortium over the financing of the tram.
Dubai Shopping Festival 2011 attractions unveiled
The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment has unveiled the calendar of events for the sixteenth edition of Dubai Shopping Festival. Dubai Shopping Festival 2011 will open with a spectacular show at the Burj Khalifa Boulevard and the Dubai Creek Park with fireworks to herald the beginning of 32 days of festivities.
RTA: Rail network on track for 2020
Al Mulla said that the RTA had slashed the cost of time wasted in traffic congestion in the municipality from $1.6 billion in 2007 to $1.1 billion in 2009. He also revealed that the RTA’s Strategic Plan for Public Transport is for mass transit to take the burden of 30% of journeys, with construction of a 318 km-long rail line and a 270 km tram line expected to carry a considerable amount of that load.
RTA Signs MoU with Dubai Airport Free Zone
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Airport Free Zone with regard to issuing permits to individuals and businesses interested in practicing transport-related activities.
More areas become paid parking zones in Dubai
Residents in some parts of Umm Ramool and Al Garhoud were shocked to know on Tuesday that their areas are the latest to be converted into paid parking zones. RTA Customers Council examines Madinati system
Al Mulla noted that the public response to Madinati is on the rise citing that the monthly reports made had grown in 2010 compared to the year before from 1333 reports to 1977 reports.
