China invests in Tehran Metro
The deputy mayor of Tehran for financial and administrative affairs says China has invested in the Tehran subway system through a deal to provide 250 million euros in financing for the Sadeqieh subway station project. Hossein Mohammad Pour-Zarandi told the Fars New Agency on Saturday that the Chinese investments will be made over the next three to four years.
Doha Metro tender process may begin in early 2011
The Doha Metro will be built in four phases and will have four lines totalling 300km. The four lines will be serviced by 108 stations. It will link the New Doha Airport with major business and conference centres, the new expansive Lusail City, Education City and West Bay areas. Qatar’s wider integrated rail network will include an east coast rail link, a high-speed service between the New Doha Airport, Doha Port and Bahrain, over the planned Friendship Bridge between the two countries – should the project ever be built.

Police train to tackle any hostage taking on Metro
Police organised the first training drill to rescue hostages on Dubai Metro as an initiative to provide all precautionary measures to protect Metro commuters. The drill was for a hostage rescue in dangerous situations such as hijacking. It was conducted in collaboration with United Kingdom's Metropolitan Police Services and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

“RTA has worked out an integrated strategy to convert the services on offer and deliver them online in keeping with the vision and drive of the e-Government; a strategy based on prompt delivery and customer centricity. The total number of e-services delivered by RTA to customers is currently as high as 164 (procedural and informational) services spanning all services deliverable online, compared to 24 such services in 2007 and 116 services in 2008.
RTA inks fines collection agreement with Sharjah Transport
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a joint cooperation agreement with Sharjah Transport regarding the collection of “Passengers Smuggling Fines”; which allows for the possibility of collecting passenger smuggling fines at RTA Offices; a step which is believed to save time and effort of customers as well as the concerned entity. The Agreement was signed at RTA Head Office in Dubai.

RTA tests the theoretical knowledge of driving license applicants
The CEO of Licensing Agency of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Ahmed Bahrozyan unveiled the technology introduced by the Agency which is set to launched in Gitex 2010; which includse eye-sight testing of driving license applicants in a way befitting the vision of the Agency: “Safe transport, safe vehicle, and world-class services” through an “electronic-touch” instead of the current system.
