His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently received in his office H.E. Kym Hewett, the Australian Consul in Dubai in the presence of Elizabeth Gordon, Counselor & Australian Trade Commissioner.
The visit came in the context of RTA’s efforts to boost the cooperative relations and the ongoing links with the relevant parties at the local, regional and global levels.
At the start of the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed the Australian delegation and praised the excellent ties between the UAE and Australia, particularly in the economic and tourism fields; as reflected in the soaring commercial exchange between the two countries, opening of direct lines between the UAE and Australian cities and soaring numbers of tourists travelling to both countries.
The meeting discussed the boosting of the existing cooperation and exchanging expertise between the RTA and the Australian businesses engaged in rail, roads and transport industries. They also reviewed the forthcoming road and infrastructure projects in Dubai as well as the preparations of the RTA for hosting the 59th UITP Congress & Exhibition under the theme “Boosting Public Transport, Action”; where several Australian companies would take part in the Congress and the accompanying Exhibition.
RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director briefed the Australian Consul on the key infrastructure and road projects undertaken by the RTA spanning various means of public transport such as the metro, marine transit modes, buses, and taxis among others in order to accommodate the growth in the number of population, projects and urbanization.
For his part the Australian Consul commended the comprehensive development seen by the Dubai Emirate in a record time, making it a focal point for investors, business leaders and tourists, thanks to the shrewd leadership and vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He singled out the Dubai Metro project; which has added a beautiful touch to the galaxy of projects characterizing the Dubai Emirate, besides its contribution to easing the mobility and reducing traffic congestion.
