The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is taking part in the 125th anniversary of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), which will be held in the Belgian capital Brussels during the period from 17 to 20 September 2010.

RTA delegation taking part in the festivities will be headed by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, and comprise RTA Board Member and Chairman of Dubai Hosting UITP Congress 2011 Follow-up Team Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation and 2nd Vice Chairman of the Team Abdul Aziz Malik, and Manager of Communication and International Relations, Office of the Chairman & Executive Director, Rawda Khalifa Al Mahrazi.

Al Tayer will deliver the keynote speech in the event narrating RTA experience in completing Dubai Metro Project billed as the world’s longest metro project undertaken as a single project and the first of its kind in the region. He will also spotlight RTA efforts in boosting mass transit modes in Dubai and review RTA preparations for hosting UITP Congress in Dubai during 10 – 14 April 2011 under the theme “Boosting public transport: Action”; the event which Dubai had won the privilege of hosting it in 2007 after a fierce competition with Singapore and Australia.

“RTA participation in this global event aims at acquainting participants with the vital projects undertaken by the RTA in the field of infrastructure required for operating public transport network, and the strategic initiatives of integrated mass transit modes spanning the Dubai Metro, public buses, marine transport and taxis.

RTA will also give a briefing on the new developments in the field of public transport and how to benefit from the latest technologies in boosting this vital sector which underlies the progress made in various other sectors, given the existing global challenges in terms of climatic changes triggered by global warming, repercussions of traffic bottlenecks, and the mounting concerns about issues attracting global attentions such as the environmental pollution, air-quality, and energy sources among others.

Accordingly, such overriding issues prompt the world community to make concerted efforts towards developing environment-friendly transit modes,” said Al Tayer.

RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director further added that RTA had made a significant progress in preparation for hosting the 59th UITP Congress and Exhibition to be held in Dubai from 10 to 14 April 2011.

For this end a team consisting of coordinators from various government departments and authorities had been established to offer the required facilities in their respective fields.

The Follow-Up Team of Dubai Hosting UITP Congress 2011 is holding regular meetings as scheduled and coordination is in hand with the UITP to keep it informed of all matters related to the organizational plan, while necessary actions and arrangements are in place for receiving the participating delegations as per the approved plan.
