Dubai to ditch cars for anti-pollution day

More than 2,500 government employees in Dubai will swap their cars for the Metro, buses and abras on Wednesday as part of a municipality drive to curb pollution. Residents are also encouraged to leave their vehicles behind and find other means of transport during the second Car Free Day, in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Etisalat and the Land Department.

"The Rail Agency of the RTA is all set to chalk out a comprehensive plan to close the existing gaps at the Metro stations and trains in a bid to improve the quality of services for special needs people," said Adnan Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Rail Agency. He said the new initiatives was being launched in light of the study conducted by the Rail Planning and Development Department to assess the basic requirements of special needs people while using public transport.

Metro rail route faces modification

The communications ministry is going to modify a part of the first-phase route of Dhaka metro rail considering commuters' convenience. The first phase of the metro rail will be built mainly over government land and existing roads. There is, however, a chance that 1.8 kilometres of the proposed metro rail between Bangladesh Bank and Kamalapur Rail Station be underground.

Road & Transport Authority - Mohammed Al Munji: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently received a Sudanese delegation headed by His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Planning and Development, Khartoum State, in the presence of the General Manager of Public Transport Company at Khartoum State Dr. Ali Khidir Bakheet, the CEO of RTA Public Transport Agency Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, and several Sudanese officials. The meeting discussed various means of cooperation in the field of public transport and modern transit systems.
