Dubai Metro to extend services for New Year's revellers
The metro will continue operating until 3am on January 1. That means that the final trains will depart from Ibn Battuta and Al Rashidiya stations at 2am, and the service hours of public buses, water buses, abras and water taxis will also be extended to finish by 3am.

“This change comes in response to the public desire to have the metro service hours extended on the occasion of the New Year which will be marked by a variety of activities, including the massive fireworks display at Burj Khalifa; which is set to attract thousands of visitors,” said Adnan Al Hamadi, CEO of RTA Rail Agency.

THE number of passengers who rode the Dubai Metro on New Year’s Eve reached 178,000. This figure, which represented double the number of passengers who rode the Metro during other holidays, was revealed by the Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Qatar railway project to be completed in 10 years
The metro is part of Qatar’s $42.9bn railway project that will also include an east coast link, a high-speed link, a freight link and a light rail system. The railway will serve suburb of Doha and developments such as Lusail, Education city and West Bay.

RTA accompanies children to 3-D cinema show
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has accompanied a number of children of its male and female employees aged 8 to 14 ages to watch a 3-D cartoon film entitled "Nuts Crusher" shown as part of the Dubai International Film Festival held at the Madinat Jumeirah under the theme "Bridging Cultures, Meeting Minds", with the aim of stimulating children's science fiction and acquiring various life skills.
Emiratis to get training on Metro operation
The RTA, in coordination with Serco, a UK-based company which operates the Dubai Metro, has started what they call the ‘Knowledge Transfer Programme' for UAE nationals working with the RTA's Rail Agency. The programme was officially launched recently by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
