RTA to ease gridlock in business districts
Use of private vehicles in the Central Business Districts (CBDs) of Dubai is likely to be limited once the Green Line of the Dubai Metro becomes operational after August next year, said a senior official. "The move is part of our plan to ease traffic congestion in the old city which is the hub of commercial activities and has always witnessed massive traffic jams," said the official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

By the time the train reaches Khalid Bin Al Waleed station, people are standing shoulder to shoulder, or "mouth to mouth", as one man puts it.

Following the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) recently; First Gulf Bank has inaugurated today its new metro station in the presence of Mr. Andre Sayegh, CEO of FGB and other seniors from the bank. The metro station is located on Sheikh Zayed Road and is in close proximity to the Bank's Branch offices.
606,390 people used RTA's free transport
More than 600,000 passengers used Dubai's mass transit system during Monday's Free Transport Day initiated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to mark its fifth anniversary. Of the 606,390 passengers counted by RTA, 205,965 took the Dubai Metro compared to a daily average of 140,000 on a normal day.
More than half a million make use of free public transport day
More than half a million passengers benefited from the free public transport day celebrated in Dubai Monday, to mark the fifth anniversary of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Public Transport Day was officially launched by Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture, and he himself used public transport Monday.
Dubai Metro Green Line extension under consideration
Plans for a 20km extension of the Dubai Metro Green Line to Academic City is being considered by transport officials, it was reported Monday. The project is set to be decided by the end of the year, and is part of a wider review of all projects being undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the National reports.
