Work begins on private Metro line in Gurgaon
The civil work for India’s first privately-funded and promoted Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon (RMG), project that is slated to start in January 2013, has finally kicked off. According to company officials, while soil testing for the project has been completed, the work of pile testing is currentlyunderway. Besides features such as the Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system (that does not necessarily require manual control of the train) and third-rail system (allowing train to draw power from below tracks), the aesthetics of the service include stations, which would be on the lines of the Dubai Metro.

RTA gears up preparation for hosting UITP Congress 2011

Dubai Metro commuters can end fast on platforms but not on trains
Dubai Metro commuters are allowed to end their fast on the platforms during Ramadan, said a top RTA (Dubai Roads and Transport Authority) official. "It is still not allowed to eat and drink inside the trains but passengers can now do so on the platforms and all other areas of the Metro station," Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Rail Operations at the RTA told Gulf News on Tuesday.
Japan concern over late payments

Late payments to Japanese contractors in Dubai have caused concern about how the country’s businesses should operate in the Middle East, Tatsuo Watanabe, Japan’s ambassador to the UAE, said yesterday.
Serco signs up for new line of business
Nakheel has hired the services company Serco to take over operations of the Palm Jumeirah Monorail after cancelling a contract with the Singaporean rail company SMRT Engineering last month. Serco, which operates and maintains Dubai Metro, took over the 5.5km line on Palm Jumeirah last Friday.
Nakheel hires Serco for Palm Jumeirah Monorail
Developer Nakheel has hired the British company Serco to operate and maintain the Palm Jumeirah Monorail, the company said in a statement. The Palm Jumeirah Monorail was the first such project to be constructed in the Middle East. The system is fully automatic and driverless and can carry up to 2,400 passengers per hour per direction in four separate trains, each made up of three cars. At full capacity, the figure rises to a maximum of 6,000 people in nine vehicles.
