Dubai records increase in registered vehicles

Dubai has recorded a 38 per cent increase in the number of registered vehicles in the three years from 2006 to 2009, according to the latest statistics, revealed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday. The total number of vehicles registered in Dubai has jumped from 740,187 in 2006 to 1,021,880 in 2009.

Dubai Taxi to revise Drivers Performance Assessment System

The CEO of the DTC Abdul Aziz Malik explained the proposed system saying: “The proposed system aims at achieving a 6% improvement in customer satisfaction and mystery shopper results, a 5% improvement in drivers satisfaction rating, a 2% improvement in the rate of traffic accidents per 100,000 in which DTC drivers are involved, an 11% reduction in traffic offences per 100,000 km, a reduction of complaints rate per 100,000 km, and a 2% increase in the average daily revenue.

The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has revealed that savings in electricity costs of around five million dollars have been made due to innovations on the rail network. According to the authority, power has been saved through the architectural design of metro stations, allowing more natural light into the stations.

It was confirmed by Abdul Rida Abu Al Hassan, Acting CEO of the Rail Agency, The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), that the number of Emirati employees working at Serco, the Dubai Metro Operator, currently tops 127 employees; which is 11% of the total workforce employed in the metro management & operation by the said Co. "The percentage of the UAE citizens employed at top management positions in Serco is as high as 40%, and the percentage of those employed in intermediate management positions is 28%.

Metro commuters travelling on Emirates Airline flights can now check in 24 hours in advance at kiosks in three stations as the carrier extends services available at Dubai International Airport. Kiosks have been installed at the Mall of the Emirates, Burj Khalifa and Financial Centre stations. The self-service devices are expected to provide an added convenience and to reduce waiting time at the airport, Emirates officials said. Passengers will need their reservation code or ticket number to use the service, which will be available until two hours before departure.
