More trains during peak hours

The Dubai Metro will increase the number of trains during peak hours to cope with the increasing rush of passengers. In an exclusive interview with Gulf News, Abdullah said they already put more trains into service during peak hours if they become too crowded.

Two more Salik gates proposed to ease traffic

Locations for two more Salik toll gates have been identified to ease traffic congestion on Dubai roads, Gulf News has learnt. A comprehensive study on roads and traffic impact in Dubai has suggested installation of two more Salik toll gates, one on Al Ittihad road near Dubai Police headquarters and the second one in Al Ghusais.

New Salik tolls could be key source of cash for Dubai

Philippe Dauba Pantanacce, senior economist at Standard Chartered Bank, said the road tolls formed a vital part of government cashflow. “Salik is an indirect tax through a toll system and in a country where there is no direct taxation, except in a few circumstances, any source of revenue is better than nothing,” he told Arabian Business. “It is also much more reliable than hydrocarbon revenues for example.
