The Road and Transport Authority (RTA), responsible for the planning and provision of the requirements of transport, roads, and traffic in Dubai, is the official transportation sponsor for the seventh Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

Projects in the pipeline include a 25-billion-dollar metro and rail network, some sections of which will be ready for the World Cup, and a 10-billion-dollar Doha International Airport, the first phase of which will open in 2012.

“The Metro lifted 206,000 passengers compared to 140,000 passengers it carries on normal days. All these are positive indicators that we’re moving into the right direction of realising our target,” said Ramadan. At a rate of 140,000 passengers per day, this makes it about 4,020,000 per month.

The Dubai Travel Pass includes two Nol Cards, each with a credit of AED14 ($3.81), booklets about the integrated public transport systems, maps, information of interest to visitors, places to visit and how to get to those places using public transport, as well as other general information such as telephone numbers of emergency service, police, embassies, and ambulance. The pack also includes value-added offers for use in Dubai on the trip.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has recently received a Spanish delegation headed by HE Fernando Salazar, Vice President of the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade. Roads & Transport Authority - Nashwan Atta'ee: The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) will soon be launching the Dubai Travel Pass (Terhaal) initiative; a pack that gives visitors to Dubai the ability to use public transportation with relative ease upon arrival in the Emirate. The intention is to provide means for visitors to travel from their homes and back to their homes seamlessly.

Inspectors — issuing fines and penalising commuters for carrying food parcels on the Dubai Metro — have gone overboard, commuters said. In a recent incident, a passenger's food package was confiscated onboard the Metro, following which he was asked to disembark at the next station to pay the fine.

Between now and then some $57bn has been earmarked on infrastructure alone for the football matches, and accommodation and transportation for fans. Roads will be dug, hotels will be erected, sewage systems will be installed. A metro will be built.
